Hi there! I am a Clinical Health Psychologist with 10+ years of research and clinical experience in women's health and sleep. About a year after I had my daughter, Esther, I decided to analyze my postpartum Fitbit data with the same kinds of analytic methods I'd been using in my previous sleep-related research studies. I was shocked by how clearly my wearable data showed what had happened to my sleep in the postpartum!
I believe that wearable devices (Fitbits/Apple Watches/etc.) are the objective tools needed to take the mystery out of the postpartum and reduce its many health disparities. But I can't get this important research off the ground by myself.
Here's how you can help:
Did you wear a wearable device after the birth of your first child? It doesn't matter if you didn't physically give birth, weren't a biological parent, or were an adoptive parent. If you were a primary caregiver of a brand new baby, your wearable data is more informative than anything that has been published on postpartum sleep to date.
Consider donating your postpartum wearable data to my IRB-approved research study to help us get the lay of the land for what the sleep of new parents actually looks like.
